Saturday evening, Indy Eleven generously hosted Allies mentors and mentees at their game against Harfort. What an exciting game to witness, ending in a tie in overtime! Even more exciting, though, was the connection we got to witness taking place between our mentors and mentees.

Often at Allies events, mentees tend to congregate together and converse more with each other than with their mentors (as teenagers typically do!). This evening, though, we were encouraged by the obvious bonds that have been built between mentors and mentees. Mentees chose to engage in more one-on-one time with their mentor, rather than chatting with their peers.

Three of our mentees who live in a residential facility were transported to the game by staff. Upon meeting up with their mentors, their faces lit up and hugs were had by all! Each pair engaged in conversation with one another, walked the stadium together and visited the concession stand for yummy treats. As matches departed, more hugs were given and “I love you” was said between many of them. The impact being made in the lives of each mentor/mentee relationship can not be put into words. It is a beauty which cannot be described.
